Coastalwatch's Coastal Conditions Monitoring System (‘CoastalCOMS’) is an
automated real time coastal observation system and data service for coastal monitoring. Deployed in several countries, the modular, real-time data service is designed to aid Federal and State tourism boards, councils, public saftey agencies and coastal professionals tasked with managing the World's coast lines.
Effective coastal management depends on the ability to identify trends that impact on coastal resources, and thus develop and implement strategies for sustainable management. The CoastalCOMS research team includes researchers from Coastalwatch, the Griffith University School of Information & Communication Technology & Griffith Centre for Coastal Management. The CoastalCOMS technology has been developed as a result of collaborative research between researchers at Coastalwatch and Griffith University which was co-funded by Coastalwatch, Gold Coast City Council & the Australian Research Council. This innovative monitoring system combines the extensive Coastalwatch camera infrastructure with the latest in neural network technology in order to provide a unique tool to assist in coastal monitoring & planning for all stakeholders.
